STRATUS
DATA SYSTEMS, INC. ANNOUNCES “REPLICA”, NEW DISASTER RECOVERY SYSTEM
February
2003 - Valhalla, NY - Stratus Data Systems, Inc. is pleased to announce
an addition to its suite of MLS products. Replica™, the firm’s new remote-site
disaster recovery system - currently being implemented by the Multiple
Listing Service of the Long Island Board of Realtors, Inc. - will also
be installed for the Toronto Real Estate Board (TREB) this spring.
The
Replica system is designed to secure business continuance for tens of
thousands of Stratus MLS end users. The system, in real time, transfers
up-to-the-minute data from Stratus MLS production servers to disaster
recovery servers at a remote location. The remote servers can be accessed
in the event of a natural disaster or malicious interference with the
production network. Replica uses flexible, cost-effective technology to
mirror and secure the vital MLS data off-site. “It
is critical to minimize disruption to data and services,” said Carlos
Grass, president of Stratus. “The more reliable the system and the better
its performance, the more REALTORS® depend on its availability. That
reliance could make their businesses vulnerable in the event of a hardware
problem or site-wide disaster. Daily backups are important, but they are
only one part of a viable solution that replicates the database in real
time to an off-site location.”
Jim
Speer, Vice President Operations of the MLS of Long Island, Inc. and the
Long Island Board of REALTORS®, Inc., remarked, “Replica gives us
an added sense of security. We know that our members will be able to access
the MLS system without data loss, even if the system fails because of
fire in our building, or another disaster beyond our control. We’ve seen
system usage more than triple after introducing Stratus MLS, and end users
count on its reliable service, so we want to do everything within our
power to keep them in business. Other industries have recognized the need
for disaster recovery systems - it’s time for MLS’s to move into the 21st
century.”
